About this release
This project began in late 2019, when HYP3RIDS received the first batch of Cuban Black Haze (CBH) S2 seeds from fellow grower Kushyman. The original S1 generation had been created by @thelonetree_ using the authentic Cuban Black Haze clone—also known as The Black or La Negra. This original cut is regarded as the genuine Florida Cuban Black Haze and was predominantly cultivated within Cuban and Dominican communities in Florida. Cuban Black Haze, commonly referred to as The Black, La Negra, or Superman, later spread from Florida up the East Coast into New York, where it gained recognition under several local names including The Piff, Frankie’s, NYC Haze, Uptown, Church, Audubon Gold, and Puday. Among these, the so-called “Brown Cut” became the phenotype most closely associated with the legendary Piff profile and is known for having one of the shortest flowering periods among New York Haze selections. For this breeding project, HYP3RIDS paired the initial CBH S2 population with a proven Sawā male. The resulting hybrid was named Cayo Hueso—the Spanish name for Key West, the island chain located in the Florida Straits. One standout CBH S2 female used in the cross displayed an unusual blood-red sap expression, which ultimately inspired the name Blood Haze. For this release, HYP3RIDS selected a Cayo Hueso F1 male alongside several F1 females that lean more heavily toward the classic Haze expression inherited from the CBH lineage. Even so, the line remains highly diverse, producing a broad spectrum of phenotypes—from El-Squato and near-pure Haze expressions to individuals showing stronger Sawā influence.
