About this release
Mekhong is a rare and authentic Southeast Asian landrace sativa selected from over 1,000 seeds preserved and cultivated for countless generations by a local grower. The seeds were gifted in 2022 by a 91-year-old woman who had maintained this genetic line continuously for most of her life. Named after the Mekhong River—marking the natural border between Laos and Thailand—this variety represents one of the oldest cannabis lineages documented in the region. This pure sativa landrace stands out for its exceptional resin production, rich cannabinoid diversity, and outstanding resistance to pests and fungal diseases. It is remarkably resilient and capable of thriving in harsh, tropical, and subtropical outdoor environments where many modern hybrids struggle. Mekhong is best suited for outdoor cultivation in warm climates. While it can be grown indoors or in temperate regions, it presents challenges due to its long flowering cycle and sensitivity to stress. The plant does not tolerate topping, heavy pruning, defoliation, or rough handling and may express hermaphroditic traits if stressed. The terpene profile is fresh and distinctive, dominated by crisp green apple aromas. With extended curing, more complex notes of liquorice and lemon oil can emerge. Chemotypically, Mekhong is highly interesting. Some plants are THC-dominant, while others naturally express a balanced 1:1 THC:CBD ratio, reaching up to 14% of each cannabinoid. CBG is almost always present, adding further medicinal and aromatic depth.
