Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). 1889 is a strain bred by Bloomingdale Organic in DC. It's a hybrid of In-House Genetics' Color of Space and LIT Farms' Hot Coco both selected in-house. The strain expresses either green and pointy or purple and dense, with the former referred to as "Mulberry Tree" and the latter called "A Starry Night" in reference to Vincent Van Gogh's 1889 works. The first keeper was selected in a hunt of 30-50 seeds, while the second was a miracle seed run by Heads of State.
