Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). The dominant terpenes below are aggregated from community and lab reporting; aroma and effect associations are preliminary and not medical claims. Lab-verified COA profiles roll out as Areto’s data comes online.

Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 70%Sativa 30%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Cherry Chem

We’ve taken the best of our Cherry Pie moms and bred her with our proven Chemdawg bc3 male to create the Cherry Chem, a heartier plant with phenomenally greasy phenos. This slippery sheen is exactly what hash and oil makers are looking for as it produces a better product (as opposed to a dry resin). If you’re interested in making Cherry-dominant oil, this is the genetic that will bring out that flavor and will grow more reliably than some Cherry Pie varietals. Cherry Pie has proven to be a show off in this strain. Strong cherry flavors stand out in every seed our breeders have grown with Cherry Chem. The mom was flavorful but finicky, and pairing it with our stable male has improved its viability and structure. Cherry Chem maintains the variety of strong cherry flavor profiles — from very fuelly to cherry candies — and brings a stabilizing factor to the plant’s growth that outpaces its predecessors. Farmers keep coming back for more Cherry Chem because it’s reliable, making it one of the top selling strains from South Fork Seed Collective. This strain can grow almost anywhere: Indoor farmers have given us excellent feedback on this strain, and outdoor farmers saw it prosper under f
