When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The star pupil lineage remains fairly recessive although adds stronger branching in these plants, as well as density, and also some purple flower color to some of the more rare phenotypes
