Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide
Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). Hawaiian Snow is among our favorite classic rarities, a three-way cross between Neville Haze, Pure Haze and Hawaiian Haze. Crossing this pineapple-smelling tropical wonder with a wonderful cutting of Afghani Kush was done to create a productive strain with blossoming period and height halfway between its parents’! The result was potent and flavorful, which meant that such a genetic combination is promising. With the help of specially programmed AI, we analyzed the profiles of both parent strains as well as their progeny to outline how further selection process should be organized to promote the desirable features. Then the busiest and most complicated part followed: numerous back-crossings were interchanged with new phenotypes crossed between each other.
