Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). Apparently unaffected by modern hybrids, unlike in areas such as Malana. Nepali charas is legendary for its warm positivity and soaring highs. Evidence for utilization of cannabis in this region dates as early as c. 400 BCE
