Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the lab-verifiable signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). Cannabinoid type is set largely by a single gene (the THC:CBD ratio); about 96% of commercial flower is Type I, THC-dominant. Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide
Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). About Dynamite Diesel
Dynamite Diesel – All the best of east coast cannabis is represented in Dynamite Diesel. The history of her mother, the ECSD, is a bit controversial and convoluted. What is certain is that the plant is a genetic gem. Her fingerling buds magically capture the aromas of diesel fumes, gear grease, and oil barrels. While the strength of the smell of many cultivars is exaggerated, ECSD’s bouquet simply cannot be exaggerated. The smallest bud will endlessly emanate scents of a roadkill skunk and a mechanic’s workshop, and anybody in the immediate vicinity will quickly become suspicious or envious. ECSD has a potency to match, and is what I describe as a “devastating sativa.” She is euphoric, super-powerful, and can be strong enough to cease all productivity for the day–not your functional sativa or gentle in the slightest. Chemdog was grown and bred with extensively on the east coast, the Stardawg being the culmination of these breeding efforts. Stardawg has a somewhat similar aroma to ECSD, both manifesting industrial and mechanical scents.
