Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The Northern Lights Haze seeds that produced the mother plant in this cross were F2 seeds, open pollinated from F1 seeds from Sensi Seeds in the early 1990s.
