Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Sativa 100%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

From the garden of a Lao friend who has been collecting and testing seeds, the parent plants were from 2019 accessions from Central and Southern Laos, including Savannahket (‘Lao Gold’), Bolikhamsai (‘Highland Lao #2’), and the plants they already grow at home. Lao and Thai ganja domesticates are typically 6 months from seed to harvest, some earlier plants leaning toward 5 months.
