Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the lab-verifiable signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). Cannabinoid type is set largely by a single gene (the THC:CBD ratio); about 96% of commercial flower is Type I, THC-dominant. Terpene profiles are sourced from Certificates of Analysis (COA) and roll out as Areto’s lab-verified data comes online.

Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 30%Sativa 70%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Mandalay

Traditionally Mandalay is the spiritual center of the Buddhism in Burma. This originally pure Sativa has been crossed with Chronic and back crossed again. The whole purpose of creating this particular strain was to obtain a very special ecstatic state of mind with a sharp happy edge. The intense vanilla flavors with a liquorice after taste complete the whole experience with great satisfaction. This strain is different from any other sativa that we have currently in our collection, a real treat that we recommend with all our heart. 80% Sativa 20% Indica Flowering Time: 9 weeks Yield: 500 gr per sq. mt. indoor, up to 700 gr per plant outdoor THC: 20%
