Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Sativa 100%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Marine Layer

Marine layer is an F55 (as of 2023) and the story goes: In 1962 Vietnamese seeds were brought back from the war to Guadalajara, Mexico, and crossed with the local strain grown in the mountains outside the city. These were grown as an IBL until 2016, when they made their way up to the coast of Northern Humboldt County. For the next 7 year, they were selected for sexual stability and thin leaves, on the coast. The name was chosen as a play on Haze, as people swear it smells the same. Most phenos finish post November. Awesome resistance to slugs and mites, and chickens seem to love them. Pure sativa growth pattern, some phenos throwing spiral growth, and a purple flower pheno comes out now and again. @satoriseedselections on IG
