Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 50%Sativa 50%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

Phenotypes: The most common phenotypes tend to be a nice blend of both indica and sativa traits producing en easily contained plant with not too much stretch. The leaves are dark green in color, and the flower tends to be frosty light green and purple. The preffered pheno also has purple fade on the outer edges of the leaves as they become covered in a fine layer of sweet sticky resin.
