Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the lab-verifiable signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). Cannabinoid type is set largely by a single gene (the THC:CBD ratio); about 96% of commercial flower is Type I, THC-dominant. Terpene profiles are sourced from Certificates of Analysis (COA) and roll out as Areto’s lab-verified data comes online.

Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 50%Sativa 50%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Olympia

Olympia was created by crossing two of the most famous plants in their category: Tutankhamon, a selection of AK47, a fast-flowering sativa with a complex fruity aroma, with LA Confidential, a compact Indica line with dense, resinous buds. This hybrid gives medium sized plants, sturdy and well branched, which indoors can produce up to 500g per m2 after 60 days of flowering. Outdoors, Olympia can be harvested in mid-September, with yields ranging from 500g to 1kg per plant depending on the growing conditions. Once harvested, dried and cured, Olympia has a fruity and acid aroma, while its effect is more cerebral than physical, inherited from the Tutankhamon parentage.
