Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). The dominant terpenes below are aggregated from community and lab reporting; aroma and effect associations are preliminary and not medical claims. Lab-verified COA profiles roll out as Areto’s data comes online.

Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 50%Sativa 50%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Orange Skunk

Orange Skunk is claimed by Expert Seeds to be the absolute best Orange strain available today. It got its name from the almost overwhelming smell of oranges and other freshly cut citrus fruits. It is a 50/50 indica/sativa cannabis strain which can display marvellous colours of maroon and purple when exposed to cool night-time temperatures close to the end of the flowering period. Orange Skunk was created by crossing a strain called Orange Velvet with another called Jack the Ripper. Apart from the delicious aroma Orange Skunk has other very positive traits; with 21.6% THC the effect is very strong bordering on trippy. In addition it is a prodigious yielder that produces between 600 - 700 gr/m2 indoors and up to 1150 gr/plant outdoors. Flowering time is a respectable 55 - 65 days indoors; outdoors in the northern hemisphere growers can expect a late September finish. Maximum production is gained from plants that have been trained into a bush pattern.
