Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 50%Sativa 50%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

It is an excellent choice for growers looking for intense terpenes and heavily resin-coated flowers. Genetics The gassy character comes from White Lion, which growers working with these genetics describe as a cross of Green Apple Gas and GMO Cookies x Brozé, bred on Higher Heights’ own farm. Pineapple Mojito provides a fresher counterpoint. It is a hybrid of Carambola and Lemon Limez, with Sour Diesel and Key Lime Pie in its family tree. The result is a large, stretchy plant with numerous flowering sites. Although the breeder does not publish an indica/sativa breakdown, the variety is considered very balanced. In cultivation: vigorous and high-yielding Higher Heights warns that Piña Blanca develops sizeable plants with significant stretch, making trellising or staking advisable before the branches become weighed down by flowers. In return, growers can expect high producti
