When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The Issan province is notoriously hard to farm which makes it one of the poorest provinces in Thailand which doesn’t get the tourism as other parts enjoy. The majority of people speak Thai but many speak “Thai Issan” a mixture of Laos and Thai dialects predominately in the Northern and central parts with people speaking Khmer and Thai dialects in the Southern parts due to proximity to the Cambodian border
