Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 50%Sativa 50%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Syrian

Genetics: Syrian Cannabis Landrace Sourcing: Obtained from collectors via gene bank Purpose: Hashish (sieved resin) Latitude: 34° N Regional Harvest: August through September Height: 0.6 – 1.5 metres Aroma: Sweet, fruity, floral, ‘hashy’ Characteristics: Early, hardy, Indica and Sativa types, aromatic, semi-autoflowering, CBD Grow Type: Outdoors, greenhouse, or indoors A pristine accession of a Syrian cannabis landrace. This landrace is a fast-flowering and shares characteristics with Lebanese landraces from Bekaa Valley and, to a lesser extent, with Turkish types. Syria has a long tradition of Cannabis cultivation, particularly in the mountainous western region bordering Lebanon. These are early maturing plants with intense aromas and resin. Semi-autoflowering traits can be exhibited. Two main variants can be found, namely Indica-type and Sativa-type. Indica-type plants can be expected to range from 0.6 to 0.9 metres. Sativa-type plants approximate 1.2 to 1.5 metres in height. The Indicas are more desirable and compact, whereas the Sativas appear to typically have ruderal characteristics. As expected for a hashish domesticate, chemotypes range from THC- to CBD-dominant. Aromas are
