Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the lab-verifiable signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). Cannabinoid type is set largely by a single gene (the THC:CBD ratio); about 96% of commercial flower is Type I, THC-dominant. Terpene profiles are sourced from Certificates of Analysis (COA) and roll out as Areto’s lab-verified data comes online.

Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 50%Sativa 50%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About Vanilla Ice

Zambeza Seeds crossed three top-performing Indicas to create Vanilla Ice: Northern Light, Skunk, and Afghani. These reliable genetics literally produced tons of high-quality weed over the years, and are therefore the ideal basis for this Indica-dominant crossing. Expect reliable growth, sugar-coated buds, and flavours of fresh vanilla. Both Indica- and Hash lovers have just found their perfect match! Vanilla Ice grows like a typical Indica and stays rather compact in size when it’s being cultivated indoors. Under artificial lighting heights of 60-90cm are common, whereas outdoor growers can expect to get significantly taller plants, with heights of up to 170-200cm. It’s not the highest-yielding strain in Zambeza’s catalogue but indoor yields of 550-650g/m², and outdoor yields of 450-550g per plant are still remarkable. Especially, when those numbers are put in relation to the short flowering time of approximately 55 days, and to the exceptional quality of the final product. When harvest is getting closer, one gets the impression of looking at a winter wonderland when taking a glimpse at Vanilla Ice. The frosted nuggets are phenomenal! It’s also the unique taste, making Vanilla Ice
