Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). The dominant terpenes below are aggregated from community and lab reporting; aroma and effect associations are preliminary and not medical claims. Lab-verified COA profiles roll out as Areto’s data comes online.

Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide

Indica 30%Sativa 70%

Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About West Coast Willie

Gifted by one of our North American friends, the Willie Nelson, a Vietnamese and Nepalese landrace mix, has been selected to help reinvigorate the cannabis gene pool. Like Shadowdancer, we sought to introduce a modern strain like the OG Joseph with a landrace to find new flavors, structures, and medicinal effects. The Willie Nelson mother used in this crossing possesses a fuller bud structure, compared with other Willie Nelsons, and creates a mind-wandering high that lasts for hours. Flavors vary from a hashy smoke with vanilla-licorice to sour apple with a pepper and earth undertone. Expect a soaring high. A day-time bud for those seeking to socialize or inspire some creativity. Expect to see more variation between phenotypes. Plants may stretch up to two times its size during flower. The structure makes this plant suitable for all grow setups, very versatile and vigorous.
