Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide
Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). History of the White Skunk Cannabis Strain White Skunk is an indica-dominant hybrid created by Sensi Seeds. Founded in 1985 by Ben Dronkers (who also founded Amsterdam's Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum), Sensi Seeds is currently the world's largest producer of cannabis seeds, carrying over 500 strains. Dronkers opened the first brick-and-mortar Sensi Seeds shop in 1986, selling seeds, grow equipment, and books about cannabis cultivation and culture. Although cannabis coffeeshops already existed in Amsterdam and other Dutch cities since the 1970s, the Dutch weren't particularly fond of cannabis—dry flower, that is.
