Chemotype genetics-true
Chemotype
Type I
THC-dominant
Chemotype — the cannabinoid and terpene profile — is the lab-verifiable signal that stays true to a cultivar’s genetics, which is why scientists classify cannabis by chemical profile (a “chemovar”) rather than by name (Hazekamp & Fischedick 2012). Cannabinoid type is set largely by a single gene (the THC:CBD ratio); about 96% of commercial flower is Type I, THC-dominant. Terpene profiles are sourced from Certificates of Analysis (COA) and roll out as Areto’s lab-verified data comes online.
Indica / Sativa — retail shopping guide
Indica, sativa and hybrid are a retail shopping convention — not a reliable guide to genetics or effects. When researchers analysed 89,923 commercial samples across six states, these labels did not predict a plant’s terpene or cannabinoid profile, and a genome-wide study found sativa- and indica-labelled plants to be genetically indistinct (PLOS ONE 2022; Nature Plants 2021). The labels are so fluid that AK-47, a hybrid, won “Best Sativa” at the 1999 Cannabis Cup and “Best Indica” four years later. For an accurate, genetics-true picture, see the chemotype above.

About White Widow x Critical
This strain is very special for every one of the Expert Seeds breeders as it’s a cross between two of our all-time favourite genetics and which we conserve and adore as Goddesses of the cannabis world: White Widow, perhaps one of the top cup-winning plants over the last 15 years and Critical Mass, which is an improved version of the mythical Big Bud and which will amaze you with its yields and aroma and highly prized by commercial growers everywhere. When it finally occurred to us to blend them in our laboratory to see what would happen, we were amazed to find we’d achieved perfection. A robust strain that looks like an indica with super-indica yields, it produces a large amount of resin that gives off a velvety aroma of sweet fruits and flowers. Moderate indoor growth and a high resistance to pests and mould make this strain ideal for experienced growers and beginners alike. Genetic Background: 80% indica, 20% sativa
